An operative of the Economic of Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Oyibogare Esharenena Williams, has committed suicide by drinking a poisonous insecticide called Sniper.
Report reaching us that Mr. William, a detective assistant, was found dead at about 7am on Friday at his house at Giwa Amu area, off Airport Road, Benin, the capital of Edo state.
Security sources said Mr. Williams was found by one of his colleague who went to check on him after failing to report to his office on Thursday and several calls through his line went unanswered.
It was gathered that while searching for the possible cause of the death, police detectives found a suicide note, some unknown pills, and a bottle of sniper.
His remains have been deposited at the Central Hospital Mortuary for autopsy.
A spokesman for the EFCC, Wilson Uwajaren did not respond to a telephone call and text message, seeking the commissioner’s response to the incident.
On June 20th, the Federal Government restricted the sale and use of sniper and directed that the product be withdrawn from the open market with immediate effect, following incidences of suicide by drinking the poisonous substance.
