The Nasara Creative who are the conveners of NASARAWA BOOK AND ARTS FESTIVAL (NABAFest), over the weekend, hosted Professor David I. Ker OON to a Literary Creative Session on Creativity and Reflections, with a paper presentation on “A Journey With Creative Writers in Lafia, Nasarawa state.”
Professor Ker is a two-time former Vice-Chancellor of the Benue State University, Makurdi, and Veritas University, Abuja, and has been a teacher, administrator and critic as well as at the Nasarawa State University, Keffi for the last three years.
The Professor in an emotional confession declared that even after the forty-five years of academia and literary enthusiasm, the young literary generation still honors and finds him useful.
During the maiden edition of the LITERARY CREATIVE SESSION which took place Saturday, 18 2020, the Professor in his speech said:
For a job that I have put in over fourty-five years I thank God that you still find me useful and worthy to share ideas with you.
Traveling with creative writers used to be a hazardous task but I am glad to observe that a lot of the rough edges have been smoothened and we can now sit comfortably together. This is as it should be. Good creative work needs to be supported by equally good criticism. If creative writers invite an old critic to share some moments with them it is safe to say that the rough edges are indeed smoothening and we have come a long way from the time when James Baldwin observed that
The event was divided into three sessions and was anchored by Mr. Bash S. Amuneni and Mr. Bentex Torlafia.
The first session was a topic discussion and talk shop on the issue of RAPE and the SDGs and was anchored by Bentex Torlafia.
The second session was an INTERACTIVE MEETING WITH PROFESSOR DAVID KER AND MEMBERS OF THE PARTICIPANTS, this was anchored by Bash Amuneni.
Then, session three was on literary creativity where spoken word performance, poetry renditions, and short stories were read. This was also anchored by Bash Amuneni and Bentex Torlafia.
The Nasara Creative had a successful outing on Saturday, with its first big event coming out within the year tagged NASARAWA BOOK AND ARTS FESTIVAL (NABAfest, 2020) planned for execution sometime in September 2020.
The event had in attendance Professor Idris Amali, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Federal University of Lafia, Nasarawa state.
Also in attendance was Dr. Thomas Affi, former Chief Medical Director of the Nasarawa State Hospitals Management Board.
It was an interactive and awesome session for those who graced the occasion and we are looking forward to the series of events to unfold come September.
