Nigerian female basketball team, D’Tigress on Sunday night defeated Senegal 60-55 in the final of the 2019 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket.
In doing so, the Nigerians have retained the title they won two years ago in Mali.
Evelyn Akhator finished with a game-high 14 points and 9 rebounds. Ezinne Kalu had 13 points, while Promise Amukamara finished with 12 points to shatter the lofty ambitions of the Senegalese team and the over 13,000 fans at the match venue who were hoping that their girls would become the first host team to win the championship since 2005 – they year Nigeria hosted and won.
This is a great feat for sport in the country as the new African champion brings home another gold medal.
Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari also took to his Twitter timeline to pen down a congratulatory message to the D’Tigress.
