The saga started with the two day visit President Mohammadu Buhari made to Lagos state recently and his coincidental meeting with international supermodel, Naomi Campbell.
The supermodel was in Lagos for a fashion show when President Buhari made his visit to Lagos state around the same time, on the second day of his visit during his tour of the Eko Atlantic City, it was reported that Naomi Campbell was also at the occasion and requested to be received by the President for photographs. Excited Naomi Campbell took to her social media page afterward to appreciate the invitation the Presidency offered her but Nigeria Presidency was quick to rebuke the statement and stated the record straight. Read below the two tweets:
“Was a pleasure to meet His Excellency The President of The Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari to the launch of Eko Atlantic. HERE FOR ARISE FASHION WEEK.”
“For the sake of clarity, President @MBuhari didn’t invite Ms, Naomi Campbell to any event during his 2-day visit to Lagos state. They only met at Eko Atlantic City while Mr. President was touring the project and she requested to take photos with him.”
These tweets sparked endless debate and opinions among Nigerians, both the ones home and abroad. But Mr. Tolu Ogunlesi who Oversees Digital Comms for @NGRPresident and @asorock | Head of @DigiCommsNG | Tweets Personalis the digital media to the President read all these tweets and tweeted his opinion where he lambasted Nigerians for their hypocrisy. In his tweet he compared the meeting of Naomi Campbell with the late African icon, Nelson Mandela and the same meeting of the supermodel with the present President of Nigeria, Mohammadu Buhari, he accused Nigerians of favouring the Mandela-Naomi meeting to Buahari-Naomi meeting. Read his tweet below:
“Naomi Campbell met Nelson Mandela more than once. He hugged her, called her his “honorary granddaughter”. She visits Nigeria for a fashion festival and meets President @MBuhari, and some of you animals are slandering her. YOU’RE RAVING MAD WITH NOBODY TO TELL YOU.”
But Nigerians didn’t take this too lightly as they fired back at Tolu Ogunlesi for referring Nigerians as animals. In a multi stream of tweets, Nigerians came hard for Mr. Ogunlesi and his tweet. Read some of the tweets below:
