The Islamic Movement of Nigeria carried out their promise to march and observe the Ashura rite today in some part of the country but they were met with police Abuja, Kaduna, Gombe, and other parts.
Members of the movement converged at Wuse market area of the Federal Capital Territory as early as 7 am and marched toward the popular Berger roundabout.
The protesters were seen waving flags with Arabic inscriptions and chanting anti-government songs with the intention to provoke any resistance from the government.
The protesters hurriedly dispersed on sighting armed policemen to avoid being arrested and fired on. The protest caused gridlock in many parts of the city, leaving some commuters frustrated and late for their meetings.
But report reaching us from Kaduna state and online source alleged that it was a fatal clash between the Nigerian police the members of Shiites and three people are feared dead after the police opened fire.
Another online source reported the scene in the Abuja FCT.
“The Inspector-General of Police, M A Adamu has warned that the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, IMN also known as the Shiites would be treated as terrorist if they embarked on any procession in any part of the Country.”
Many others have been reported wounded.
Also, reports have it that an unspecified number of protesters were shot dead by armed policemen in Gombe State.
