A young Somali man got married to two women same day and he is telling his fellow men out there to do same if they can afford it.
The lavish wedding which took place in Sinai village, Ahmed Dhagah district, was well attended but the guests who attended the unusual ceremony were flabbergasted by the strange spectacle of a groom with two new brides. The groom identified as Bashir Mohammed says he wedded his two brides at once because he intends to have many children.
In Somali, polygamy is a culture that’s is allowed but it is usual to see a man marrying two women at the same time as Bashir Mohammed did.
When he spoke to BBC Somali, Mohammed said he courted both brides Iqra and Nimo for about eight months and convinced them to marry him.
“I used to bring them together to socialize with me at my home, i used to say openly of them that i love them, they were satisfy.” said Mohammed.
Mohammed further revealed that why he decided to marry the two brides same day was his way of ensuring that they wouldn’t be jealous as well as ensuring they both felt secured and equal since they would be aware from the onset that they were in a polygamous marriage.
“I will encourage other men to do it if they can afford it.” Mohammed added.
